Glenn, I totally agree that our country is in dire straights and we need a dramatic change to keep us from going over the edge. You talked about the Libertarian Party needing to step up and save us from ourselves. There are three impediments which would have to be overcome to for that happen.
The first is the media in this country is biased toward liberals. They wield tremendous power and would use that power to crush anyone they see as threatening their status quo. Secondly, our young people have been indoctrinated and dumb down and haven't a clue how our system of government operates. As long as they can play their video games and social network they are happy. Thirdly, there is way too much control being exercised by the rich in this country controlling the election with money. It is abundantly clear these people have an agenda and they put their money to work.
The three issues I have identified above are not all the factors affecting a Libertarian running for office. They are however systemic and without significant changes those obstacles will not be overcome. That is a pessimistic view of our political system but I feel very accurate.
I suggest that a change in political finance would help Libertarians the most. If we could level the playing field it would at least give them a fighting chance. It would take a constitutional amendment spearheaded by the American people to enact a change since no one currently in office would support such a change. If all contributions for political office were put in a pool that is shared by all qualified candidates and not to any particular party, then it would end the detrimental influence of money.
The other two issues I have raised are not easy to change or overcome. Educating our children should be a top priority. They need to be prepared to function in our society and understand how our political system functions. When I attended school, civics was taught to all students. Now they are teaching the 1619 Project which is another way of indoctrinating of our children. That is so sad to me as our children don't have enough education to question the propaganda being forced on them.
