Do this! A Super Simple and Very Important Privacy Step!
Yes, this is creepy to think about but...how do you know that someone is not watching you right now from the camera on your laptop or phone? How do you know that they aren't recording you at your most vulnerable moments?
The fact is, you don't.
In the past week there have been three separate reports of incidents of people's camera's being hacked...
The first instance was a "bug" found in Facebook's iphone app that is apparently using your camera without your knowledge.
The second instance was a new bug that was found on Android phones (Google). "A new vulnerability has been found in the Camera apps for millions, if not hundreds of millions, of Android devices that could allow other apps to record video, take pictures, and extract GPS data from media without having the required permissions."
The third instance is not a bug, but rather it's a hack by some very nasty people. "Hackers are using malicious software to film people through their webcams while they view porn, security experts have warned. The hackers will then use the videos to blackmail those affected, threatening to send it to a person’s family."
Yes, you need to cover up your cameras. You can do this with tape, but tape is not the best solution. This is what I use and recommend. It only costs $4 for a pack of 6, and it's reusable, it doesn't leave residue and it looks good.
