Glenn, you are doing an incredible job and you shouldn't allow someone to undermine you because of their own issues. Glenn, you are doing an incredible job and you shouldn't allow someone to undermine you because of their own issues. Like the president of this country does repeatedly, I'd bet your "friend" is doing a lot of projecting about the fact that he is not living up to his own mission of serving God. Your voice is clear, it is consistent, and it has always felt to me like you are guided by your belief in God and God's words. You work hard to inform us so we can be stewards of this earth, survive in the event of a catastrophic crisis, and be informed about institutions and organizations which may not have our best interests at their forefront.
I'm sorry to get both political and religious here, but I have to say this: My personal feeling is that supporting this president has evolved into a hate-filled cult whose foundation has been created of sand, the grains of which are constructed from everything that is as antithetical to the teachings of Christ as it gets. For whatever reason, the members of this cult have turned to hate, to judging their neighbors, to worshipping a man who claims to be above God Himself, and in so doing they lash out viciously at anyone and everyone who takes a stand against their idol and his words and direction. I think it sounds like this is what your friend has done, and I am truly sorry for this. Friendships that have lasted decades are important and valuable. But this is a further indication of what I'm saying. You could disagree about politics in the past because that WAS about politics; it was about specific issues. In our country right now it isn't about politics any longer. It is about values. It about one side believing in and following everything their false prophet is telling them, despite what they see, and the other side taking a stand about a leader who would imprison children, separate them from their parents, remove every environmental protection we had in place to ensure clean air, water, and land for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren, and so much more.
So, please, do not question your own integrity or voice or mission. And please do not take to heart your friend's words. People in cults say and do terrible things to the ones they love and care about. Gaslighting is a very real thing and right now 44% of this country functions as if they are victims of Stockholm syndrome. That sounds dramatic and extreme, but it's what I believe based on what I have observed.
Questioning is, of course, always a good thing. None of us are immune to mistakes or losing our way. But for whatever its worth, I--and so many others--learn so much from you, and will continue to learn so much from you. And I thank you for that.
Stay well, stay safe, and maybe in time your friend will have an epiphany and return to a life where he can be your friend and disagree on issues without judging you. There is always hope.

Debra, I agree. We are having a fundamental values conflict in the US.
Thank you Debra!
