For what it's worth (and I'm not the originator of this perspective), privacy is the most precious personal property right that a person is born with - that of self-ownership. If you aren't free to control what defines you as a person. self-determination, or whatever else you might prefer to call it, and an external agency does, you are a slave - nothing more.
